According to the draft law prepared by the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment of the Russian Federation, Rosatom is to become the federal operator of hazardous waste. Annually, there are over 400,000 tons of such waste accumulated in Russia, with no plants for its processing, utilization, and safe storage that correspond to the best available technologies principles. “Currently, this market is open for grabs,” says Anton Gubnitsyn, CEO of TIAR Center. “Rosatom is a good candidacy for the operator role.
